Throw It

Scrimmage but the game begins with a side/goalie throw in to practice aerial control.

  • Soccer field with two goals

• Equipment

  • Balls

  • Disc cones

  • Goals

  • Pinnies

• Objective

  To score more points than the opposing team.

• Directions

  1. Normal scrimmage except that the game always starts with a throw-in or a goalie throw in.

  2. Objective of the game is for players to practice aerial control more frequently than in a normal game.

  3. No defense on the player who receives the ball out of the air.

  ** Keep a healthy supply of soccer balls on each side of the field.

• Variations

  • Challenge: allow defenders to put pressure on and steal the ball from the player receiving the ball out of the air

• Coaching Points

  • “Trap the ball against the ground”

  • Goalies should Only be kicking it in if players are behind the safety line.
